What is wild rice?
Wild rice really isn't a rice at all.  It's the seed of Zizania palustris, a tall, blooming water grass that prospers in shallow lakes, marshes and streams.  It is the only cereal grain native to the North American continent. Wild rice is grown in the clean, clear waters of the Great Lakes region and in the fruitful western valleys in the shadow of the Sierra Nevada's and the Rocky Mountains.

100% Pure Enjoyment
Innovative chefs already know that wild rice is more than just an exciting side dish and are tossing it into salads and soups, pancakes and muffins, stir-fries and even desserts.  Wild rice isn't only for gourmet chefs any more!

Wild rice is not only 100 percent pure enjoyment, it is also an attractive addition to any menu item.  The unmistakable coffee-brown grains with their cream-colored centers offer a visual allure.  Wild rice is extremely versatile, allowing every cook vast opportunities to feature his or her culinary talents.

Consistent Quality
The California Wild Rice Growers Association is a cooperative of farmers producing a consistently high quality product in dependable quantities.  The wild rice is processed and packaged at the Co-op's Fall River Mills plant under strict quality control standards where it is graded and packaged to meet commercial specifications.  Institutional, industrial, and private label inquiries are welcome.

Wild Rice History
Wild rice was a staple food of several Native American tribes.  It was called "manoomin", which means "precious grain".  Wild rice remains "manoomin" for us today - a culinary gem.
